The Gospel Truth Changes Everything

2 John 1:1-2, "1 The Elder, To the [a]elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth, 2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever"

The Greek word used for truth here is alethia. The Greek  translation  or the original translation of this word means, “Spoken of what is true in and of itself. Purity from all error, falsehood. The truth of the Gospel.”
So how did John “love this lady in truth?” How can we “love each other, notably our family, friends, the world,  in this truth? How can we love in the truth of the gospel? Sometimes we can get so caught up with a lot of details or new revelations or new a new “word  from God” that we lose sight of just how powerful the Gospel is. The Gospel and the truth of the Gospel changes everything!

The Gospel of Jesus Christ changes everything for the Christian. We step from death into life. Jesus has freed us from every burden, every pain, every lust, every sin which might try to bring condemnation unto us. When we truly allow the love of Jesus and the rivers of God’s love to flow through us, our entire mindset towards others should change. Our mindset should change from a broken, angry, or confrontational mindset to one filled with love God and others, compassion, and empathy for others, even those who have hurt us.

John 8:36 says, “He whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” If I am truly living my life out of truth, then I am supposed to be freed from the brokenness  that has tried to drag me down for years. 2 Corinthians 5:17, in the NKJV says, “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. " Through Christ we are freed from the chains of the past. The problem is that so many of us continually re-visit those old sin patterns, the hurts, the lies, the anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness. We revisit those things and allow ourselves to fall into broken lifestyles. It’s like we put back on the weights and sins of our old sin nature, that we are supposed to be daily dying to and laying aside.

So when we love someone in the “truth of the gospel,” We love them based on who they really are in Christ, a new creation. We don’t see their shortcomings and failures. We are able to love them for who they really are in Christ, because we ourselves have been transformed by Christ. Where once was an emptiness and void in our lives, now has been replaced with the fullness of the love of Jesus. Our heart should be pure and undefiled from the things of this world.
2 John 1: 4-6, "4 I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. 5 And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another. 6 This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it." I find it neat that we see from this verse that the more and more we live our lives out of the truth of God’s Word, and allow His truth and His Word to guide our every action, we will be enabled to walk in love more and more towards God and others.

This is one of the problems of our society. There is no absolute truth. For most people, truth is whatever you want it to be, or whatever makes you happy. Thus, countless people have a hard time living in love towards others. People who do not genuinely live by a solid understanding of the truth of God’s Word will put lies into the place where truth should be influencing our lives. Instead of truth people will go for whatever activity, relationship, job, drink, food, hobby, sensation or feeling that helps them to fill the emptiness and void where the truth and immense love of God’s should fill our emptiness and brokenness and should be our focus. Truth will change your entire life and transform you from a carnally minded person to a kingdom, heavenly minded person who walks in the anointing, favor, and blessings of God. Someone without truth is a wandering, empty, loveless, apathetic person.

John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Take a look at your life, and ask the question, “Am I living my life out of truth or for anything at all?
I challenge you to commit your life to living out of the truth of God’s Word. Determine you and your family will stand for truth, no matter what the cost. I promise you as you begin align yourself with the truth of God’s Word, God will bless, protect, surround you with favor, and open the floodgates and blessings of heaven upon you and your family.  The Gospel changes everything!

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:14-17, "14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;"

So often in our Christian walks we start out excited and we seem strong, but then life happens, and the cares of this world tend to drag us down. We drift and wander and get bogged down with various anxieties, sins, lusts, lies, or even fears. Our once passionate devotion to God gets replaced with idolatry and love of our selfish, sinful desires.
In this passage, God has given us the recipe to overcome and have victory in our Christian walk. Notice how Paul says, “Above all take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” God wants us to live with an absolute faith in His Word. We must live by faith not by sight. If we live by sight, we will fail every time. It is also important for us to put on the belt of truth. A belt holds one’s pants up so they don’t fall down. If our lives are founded on the truth of God’s Word, everything in our life will be held together. In this society where truth is relative and there is no longer any absolute truth, God is wanting us to live with absolute faith in the truth of His Word. God is wanting us to allow His truth to guide everyone of our actions. God is wanting everything in the shadows of our lives to be brought to light. As Christ followers, we cannot tolerate those little shadowy sins in our lives that nobody knows about. Everything must be brought to light and be open. This is the sure way we can be overcomers in this life.
